Bussell finishes third at 2019 American Legion State Oratorical Contest

STATE ORATORICAL CONTEST — Ashley Bussell of Greenville receives the third-place award at the 2019 American Legion State Oratorical Contest at Thomas College in Waterville Feb. 9. Presenting the award is American Legion State Commander Scott Paradis, left, with Americanism Officer Alfred McKay. Bussell also received a $300 scholarship. Her 10-minute speech “In Search of Equality” was based on an aspect of the U.S. Constitution. The presentation described the challenges women in the United States have experienced attaining equal rights and the relationship of those challenges to the rights protected by the Constitution. Bussell was previously awarded a $100 scholarship for winning the 14th District — Piscataquis County — Contest.
