Burgess promoted to rank of chief petty officer in U.S. Navy

Eric and Darlene Burgess of Guilford are pleased to announce their son Randy Burgess, after 12 years of distinguished service in the U.S. Navy, has been promoted to the rank chief petty officer.

Burgess, a 2001 Piscataquis Community High School graduate, enlisted in the U.S. Navy in June of 2006. He has made three combat deployments to the Persian Gulf in support of Operations Iraqi Freedom, Enduring Freedom and New Dawn during the ongoing War on Terror. Burgess is stationed at Naval Air Station Oceana in Virginia Beach, Virginia with his wife Garnett and two sons Ryker and Rylan.

Burgess has served as an aviation structural mechanic at Strike Fighter Squadrons Eleven, 106, and Eighty-Three, working on the F/A-18 Super Hornet and Legacy Hornet. During his 12 years of service, he has been recognized as the 2008 Blue Jacket of the Year, 2010 Junior Sailor of the Year, and 2017 Senior Sailor of the Year. He also was awarded six Navy and Marine Corps Commendation Medals, two Flag Letters of Accommodation, and multiple unit and campaign medals.

Burgess now joins an elite brotherhood of U.S. Navy chiefs and looks forward to continuing his service to our great nation in support of democracy and freedom for all. Congratulations again, Chief Petty Officer Randy Burgess for a job well done!
