Ivan D. Estes

Sangerville and Palmyra – Ivan D. Estes, 87, is present at home with his Lord Jesus today. He passed away October 25, 2018, at Hibbard Nursing Home, Dover-Foxcroft. Born in Palmyra on March 5, 1931, he was the son of Howard “Bill” Webster and Edna Vondell (Davis) Estes.
Ivan was a 1949 graduate of Hartland Academy, and went on to earn a Bachelor’s Degree in Agriculture at University of Maine at Orono in 1951. He worked several years for the Irving Tanning Company, (Tasman). But his life was in his family dairy farm in Palmyra, where he was born and raised. Ivan continued the 3rd generation dairy business until retiring in 1996.
Ivan loved the Lord Jesus, being born again into Christ on Easter of 2000. An active member of Grace Bible Church in Sangerville for years, he publicly acknowledged his relationship with Jesus with baptism in November 2001.
Ivan enjoyed many sports, as participant and spectator. After retiring from dairy farming, he was an avid candlepin bowler with membership in three leagues and winning awards with State Senior League Championship teams.
Ivan was a man who stayed connected to his community, and will be missed by many.
He is survived by his wife, Susan (Grant) Estes; his sisters, Vondell Dunphy and Nancy Twitchell; and many nieces and nephews. He was predeceased by a brother, Philip Estes.
Visiting hours will be held 12:00 – 1:00 PM on Wednesday, October 31, 2018, at Grace Bible Church, Sangerville, where a memorial service will be conducted at 1:00pm, with Pastor David Ray, Jr. officiating. Burial will be in the family lot in Mt. Pleasant Cemetery, Palmyra, at 1:00 PM Saturday, November 10, 2018. Arrangements are in the care of the Lary Funeral Home.
