New Milo Elementary principal hired

MILO — The SAD 41 administrative staff for the 2018-19 school year is now all in place as Angela Kelley was hired as principal for the Milo Elementary School, during a July 9 school board meeting. Kelley was hired with a two-year contract running through the end of June 2020 at an annual salary of $64,000.

“Tonight Angela Kelley is here, Angela was interviewed and recommended,” Superintendent Michael Wright said, later mentioning Kelley has moved to Hudson. “Angela has been in Presque Isle the last few years at the (Zippel Elementary School), teaching grades three and four. So this would be her first principal position.”

“I’m just very grateful to be here and I’m excited to start,” Kelley said after the directors passed a motion to formally approve the nomination.

Kelley will be succeeding Kirstina Dumond at Milo Elementary. After having been in the position for two years, Dumond will be moving across town to serve as principal of Penquis Valley Middle School. For the current academic year, a change was made at Penquis Valley with two principals in the building instead of a principal and an assistant principal. Michael Rollins will be leading Penquis Valley High School after having served in an interim capacity to conclude 2017-18.

The July 9 meeting was the first for Darcie Fournier as assistant superintendent/curriculum coordinator. She holds the position for AOS 43 which oversees SAD 41 and the Howland-based SAD 31.

“Darcie is still transitioning between Orono and here,” Wright said. “Darcie has been in Orono for 15 years, the last six as principal at Asa C. Adams Elementary. We are looking forward to having another positive person in the central office and in the schools with curriculum and some other things.”

Fournier replaces Dr. Kelley Weiss, who left the position to accept an administrative job in Chattanooga, Tenn.
