Dover-Foxcroft women’s club resumes meetings
The guests were Tami Cox and Pat Stark. Cox is a prospective member while Stark will be returning to her home. Members enjoyed roasted squash soup,vegetable rice soup, bread, pickles and chocolate zucchini cake.
President Anne Cress called the meeting to order. thanking the hostesses and welcoming guests. Suzanne Raymond led the Club Collect, American’s Creed and Pledge of Allegiance. Cress thanked Barb Austin for sending the news about the passing of Gloria Tewhey, a member of the Gorham Woman’s Club. Tewhey has chaired the Maine Youth Leadership for several years and held many other positions as well as being a state president. A moment of silence followed.
Diane Leighton took roll and read the minutes of the last meeting. Pat Jones gave the treasurer’s report and reminded members that dues are due by Dec. 1. Corresponding Secretary Roxy McGlauflin read several thank you notes. She read one from Pat Currier for the State President’s Project thanking the club for the donations given to the Nyolo School in Sudan.
Publicity Chair Minnie McCormick reported that she had sent out news of the porch party and it has been published in the Piscataquis Observer. She also noted that members are in good health or healing.
Pat Jones spoke about the Marion Doore Park and how the flowers are blooming and people have been enjoying the park. She has been gifted with some plants to put in the green space.
Cress reminded members to keep track of their volunteer hours. She then asked if club members want to continue with Linus Quilts, Angel Pockets and prayer shawls. They agreed to continue and were asked to keep bringing box tops for school. The club will continue with the change jar and traveling basket to raise more funds for the Nyolo School.
A discussion about having a 50/50 raffle was discussed but not approved. It was voted to have a yard sale in July. Wendy Hutchins agreed to be the art show chair again.
The GFWC/Miosac Club Scholarship has gone up to $300 so the organization needs a project to raise money for the scholarship. Hutchins will be the chair and Diane Leighton and Rheba Michaud will serve on the committee.
