Maine Mini Golf Masters raises over $13,000 for SAD 41 area charities
Last week the annual Maine Mini Golf Masters raised an estimated record of $13,000-plus for charities in the SAD 41 area in and around Brownville and Milo.
The event was organized six years ago just for some fun among friends. The following years they decided to try and raise a little money for charity. This year there were 21 teams of three, and a sponsor who matched all the dollars that were donated. The golfers started in Bar Harbor, and then traveled to courses in Holden and Bangor.
Bissell Brothers Brewery wanted to join in on the fun and give back to the community where business officials grew up and graduated from high school. They now own a very successful brewing company in Portland and are expanding into Milo.
While donations are still being tallied, the organizers — who also are Penquis Valley High School graduates — believe they will raise over $13,000. The list of charities receiving funds are the SAD 41 Boot and Coat Fund, PAWS, the United Methodist Church School Supply Drive, the Devon Strout Scholarship Fund, the Paul McKusick Scholarship Fund, the Michele Spinney-Nickerson family, the Milo and Brownville Recreation Departments, and a Sheilah Bissell memorial event which will be determined by her family.
Organizers for the event are Mike Weston, Travis Ellis, Trevor Lyford, and Andrew Walker. They thank all the donors who made this event such a huge success and expect next year to be even bigger and better.
