Charlotte White Center employee receives Next Step Maine Employee of Promise Scholarship
DOVER-FOXCROFT — As a Next Step Maine Employer engaged in Maine Development Foundation’s statewide Employers’ Initiative working to advance the skills and education of Maine’s workforce, the Charlotte White Center participated in the fifth annual Next Step Maine Employees of Promise Scholarship Program nominating its employees for scholarship awards to support the completion of a degree or certificate.
Felicia Fortier, a direct support professional who was nominated by Director of Human Resources Bridgett Ireland, received a 2017 Next Step Maine Employee of Promise Scholarship to support her pursuit of an associate’s degree in medical assisting at Kaplan Eastern Maine Community College.
Fortier was honored during Maine Development Foundation’s annual Next Step Maine Scholarship recognition event June 8 in Augusta.
The Next Step Maine Employees of Promise Scholarship is part of the Maine Development Foundation (MDF), a private, nonpartisan membership organization that drives sustainable, long-term economic growth for the state of Maine. MDF’s strategic focus is a productive workforce.
The program is a free statewide initiative that awards funds to Maine employees who are currently pursuing a bachelor’s degree, associate’s degree or certificate program. This year’s recipients were selected from 27 employer nominations from a variety of Maine companies and many educational institutions.
“I am always so inspired by the stories of the Next Step Maine scholarship recipients — both the recipient’s’ commitment to furthering their education and professional skills and the employer’s’ investment in increasing the credentials of their workforce,” said Gilda Nardone, executive director of New Ventures Maine and Next Step Maine Employers’ Initiative Advisory Council member. “It’s a concrete example of a pathway for Maine adults to pursue and complete college degrees.”
MDF announced earlier this month that $20,000 has been awarded to 16 Maine employees for a 2017 Next Step Maine Employee of Promise Scholarship. Next Step Maine received donations and grant support from the Maine Community Foundation, Bangor Savings Bank, the Reny’s Charitable Foundation, and Maine Chapter of Association for Talent Development.
