MEDAWISLA LODGE REOPENING — Appalachian Mountain Club (AMC) volunteers, staff, supporters, and local contractors gathered June 24 for a celebratory barbecue in appreciation of the work done by local contractors on the rebuilding of AMC’s Medawisla Lodge and Cabins near Kokadjo. The July 1 reopening of the facility following a multi-year rebuilding project is the latest milestone in AMC’s Maine Woods Initiative, which combines conservation, recreation, sustainable forestry, and community partnerships, and is designed to attract new nature-based tourism to the region. More than 50 local workers were employed in the rebuilding project, including a dozen Maine contractors. E.W. Littlefield & Sons, Inc. of Hartland served as general contractor. Event attendees gathered for a group photo outside the new main lodge. More information on Medawisla is at www.outdoors.org/medawisla.
