Penquis celebrates 50 years at Business After Hours

DOVER-FOXCROFT — On Thursday, April 13 from 5 to 7 p.m. the Piscataquis Chamber of Commerce will host a Business After Hours at the Mill Event Space in celebration of the 50th anniversary of Penquis. The event is open to members of the Piscataquis Chamber of Commerce and community members who have been impacted by the services Penquis offers.
As part of his State of the Union address, President Lyndon B. Johnson declared war on poverty in the nation. The speech led the U.S. Congress to pass the Economic Opportunity Act (EOA), which established the Office of Economic Opportunity to administer the local application of federal funds targeted against poverty. This EOA created the Community Action programs and authorized funding of Community Action Agencies. As a result locally, Penquis incorporated in 1967 and has been serving communities for 50 years.
Piscataquis Chamber of Commerce Executive Director Denise Buzzelli said, “The Dover-Foxcroft Penquis office has been a long-time member of the Piscataquis Chamber and remains an instrumental and relevant partner in the economic health and quality of life we seek to maintain as a chamber within our local communities. We are so excited to be a part of this 50th anniversary celebration.”
Hors d’oeuvres and cash bar will be available. An RSVP is required, by calling 974-2440.
