New town committee encourages business development

SANGERVILLE — A group of residents has formed the Sangerville Economic Development Committee (SEDC) to emphasize that the small community is an excellent place to live and to operate a business.
On the committee, spearheaded by Diana Bowley, are Rhonda Taylor, Matt Bell, Gail Stutzman and Chris Rowell. The group hopes other residents will join the committee to promote Sangerville as a business-friendly town in order to achieve economic prosperity and diversity.
On March 21 the committee welcomed the town’s two newest businesses, Kimball Insurance and the Smokestack Trading Post, as Bowley and Interim Town Manager Matthew Pineo presented them with floral arrangements donated by the SEDC.
The new group’s four goals include working with the park committee to develop the town’s recreation area to be a destination point for families and organizations. Long-range plans for the park include events such as concerts. The committee sees the need to develop the Route 23 corridor to attract businesses including high speed Internet.
Other SEDC efforts are to encourage volunteerism among residents, including younger community members, and to develop an open line of communication with all residents. The committee members believe that the positive exchange of ideas from residents will help lead to the creation of an expanded tax base.
The SEDC meets at 6:30 p.m. on the fourth Monday of each month in the town hall meeting room. All residents are encouraged to attend and participate in the effort to improve their community.
