Women’s club news
DOVER-FOXCROFT — The Generation Federation of Women’s Clubs(GFWC)/Miosac Club met at Thayer Parkway on Feb 21. President Anne Cress called the meeting to order and welcomed all. Minnie McCormick led the Club Collect, the American’s Creed and the Pledge of Allegiance.
Secretary Diane Leighton took roll with nine members responding, followed by the minutes of the last meeting. In the absence of Treasurer Pat Jones, McCormick read the treasurer’s report. Corresponding Secretary Roxy McGlauflin read thank you notes from Pat Currier, the GFWC/Maine President’s Project, Maine Veterans Home for the personal care products and valentines, Dover-Foxcroft Housing Cooperation and Girl Scouts.
It was noted that the ice out contest announcement was in the Piscataquis Observer. Tickets are available until March 15 and all club members are selling.
A card was signed for an ill member that has returned home. Brenda Quiet suggested members help Vicki Moschella work on the scrapbook. Three quilts donated for Project Linus were shown as was another made by Elaine Larson.
A motion was made and accepted to purchase 10 new program covers from Mrs. Hovencamp — some covers are very old and are falling apart.
It was suggested that the Maude MacKenzie Scholarship be offered to only Dover-Foxcroft students due to the number of applications. A motion was approved and the meeting was adjourned.
Program Chair Rheba Michaud introduced Suzanne Raymond, GFWC International Outreach chair, who spoke about the four partnerships — Heifer International, Women for the World, UNICEF and Shot at Life. These are all supported by club members here and abroad.
Following the talk, members enjoyed a delicious dessert and other goodies prepared by McCormick and Jones. The next meeting will be held March 21.
