Sen. Davis warns of predatory scheme

Late last month Sen. Paul Davis (R-Sangerville) had a constituent come forward with a suspicious piece of mail from American Home Protection, LLC, a Missouri-based corporation. The mail piece, addressed to a resident of Dover-Foxcroft, is designed to confuse the recipient into believing that a home warranty policy will soon lapse, unless immediate action is taken. The notice is printed on pink paper to further suggest false urgency, and contains some accurate information.
After careful review, the Attorney General’s Office determined that this particular piece isn’t fraudulent, due to the disclaimer at the bottom. However, it does qualify as a scam.
Sen. Davis would like to urge constituents to use discretion when receiving suspicious mail. He said, “While some predatory schemes are technically legal, they can be extremely misleading and dangerous. Always be sure to investigate items such as this, and be sure to always read the disclaimer at the bottom.”
