Basil E. Andrews
BASIL E. ANDREWS ATKINSON – Basil E. Andrews passed away January 23, 2017, at his home. He was born February 1, 1929, in Robbinston, Maine to the late Ivor and Thelma (Carle) Andrews. Ivor moved his family of 2 sons and 3 daughters to Atkinson, in 1945. Basil married Dorothy Eddy on June 21, 1949 and began their family of 5 children. On June 2, 1970, Basil, Dot, and their children moved into the farm where Basil and Dot remained until their deaths. When Basil wasn’t working in the fields of his farm, he could be found in the woods cutting 4 foot pulp or hauling wood. Basil grew potatoes and dry beans. In later years, he grew oats that he would bring to the Piscataquis Valley County Fair to thrash using antique farm equip-ment for demonstration purposes. He loved to fish and play Yahtzee. One would have to watch him carefully as he sometimes liked to embellish his scores. He also enjoyed going to farm auctions in the county with Sam and Mark. Since 1949, Basil and Dot were long time members of the Atkinson Methodist Church.
Basil is predeceased by the love of his life, Dorothy, by nearly 2 weeks to the hour, his daughter Susan, his parents, his sister Pat, his brother Calvin, his nephew Tim Harvey, and his sons-in-law Rome Flowers and Joe Roebuck.
Basil is survived by sisters Barbara Richards and Sara Harvey, his children Janice Flowers, Linda Roebuck, Samuel and wife Martha, David and son-in-law Vaughan Lancaster; three grandchildren Jonathan and his wife Lynn, Mark and his wife Autumn, and Holly and her husband Shaun; and four great grandchildren Hannah, Kaden, Kolton, and Zoey, and extra special nephew Tom Harvey. Basil had many nieces, nephews, and special friends, too many to name, as he never met a stranger.
The family would like to thank Beacon Hospice, especially Amanda and Sharron, for their wonderful care of Basil and Dot.
Friends are invited to call from noon until the time of the memorial service at 2:00pm Sunday, January 29, 2017, at the Atkinson Methodist Church, Stagecoach Road in Atkinson, with Pastor Mark Stevens officiating. A gathering with refreshments will follow the service at the church hall. In lieu of flowers, donations in Basil’s memory may be made to the Atkinson Methodist Church, 130 Maple Road, Atkinson, Maine 04426 or to the Piscataquis Valley Fair Association, in care of Scott Taylor 112 Foxcroft Center Road, Dover-Foxcroft, Maine 04426. Arrangements are in the care of the Lary Funeral Home, Dover-Foxcroft. Condolences may be expressed at www.laryfuneralhome.com.
