Lorraine M. Stewart, 83, passed away July 23, 2016, at Westfield Assisted Living in Prescott Valley, Arizona. She was born February 17, 1933, in Winter Harbor, Maine, the daughter of Lois (Pendleton) and Dana R. Hammond.
After graduating from Winter Harbor High School in 1951 Lorraine joined the Women’s Army Corps (WAC), which was the women’s branch of the United States Army. She proudly served during the Korean War as a stenographer. She lived the majority of her life in Bangor and worked several years for the New England Telephone Company. In 2011, Lorraine moved to Prescott Valley, Arizona to be near her daughters.
Lorraine was predeceased by her parents; her brother, Dana P. Hammond and husband, Donald Stewart. Lorraine is survived by her daughters, Jeanne MacKenzie and Donna Stewart; her grandsons, Gabe Davis and Neil Davis; and her great-grandson, Logan Davis.
A service with military honors will be held Tuesday, August 23, at 1 p.m. at the Maine Veterans Memorial Cemetery, 163 Mt. Vernon Rd., Augusta. Lorraine loved animals, especially cats, so donations in her memory may be made to the Bangor Humane Society.
