HAMPDEN AND SPRINGHILL, FLA. – Geraldine “Gerry” Lounsbury, 91, passed away July 25, 2016, after a brief illness, with her husband of 65 years, and her family by her side.
She was born in Hampden, October 6, 1924, daughter of Jack and Cora Rawcliffe.
On June 16, 1946, Gerry graduated from the University of Maine, Orono with a degree in sociology. She moved to Charleston, West Virginia for a job as director of the Girl Scouts. She returned to Hampden to care for her ill parents. It was then that she met her future husband, Joe, at Star Beef Company, while operating her parent’s store. On October 25, 1951, Gerry married Joe Lounsbury.
Surviving in addition to her husband, are four children, Sharon Wright and her husband, Robert of Centerville, Ohio, Joe Lounsbury, Jr. and his wife, Donna of Palm Coast, Fla., Shelly Eaton and her husband, Jeffery of Washington, Sheila Marriner and her husband, Michael of Lincolnville; grandchildren, Bryan Wright, Lisa Wright Shuster, Lauren Wright, Daniel Wright, Jason Lounsbury, Melissa Osher, Jillian Biehl, Kasey Leidenroth, Sarah Marriner, Zachary Marriner and Stacy McCarthy; five great-grandchildren, Cameron Lounsbury, Griffin Osher, Marin Osher, Riley Shuster and Tessa Osher; numerous nieces and nephews.
She was predeceased by three brothers, Wilfred “Hi”, Reginald, and Carl Rawcliffe.
Relatives and friends are invited to call 3-6 p.m. Sunday, July 31, 2016, at the Hampden-Gilpatrick Chapel of Brookings-Smith, 45 Western Ave., Hampden. A memorial service will be held 11 a.m. Monday, August 1, 2016, at the Hampden Highlands United Methodist Church, 48 Kennebec Rd., Hampden, with the Rev. David Nicol, pastor, officiating.
