PRYMCA annual campaign

DOVER-FOXCROFT — Here in rural America, we strive to keep our local businesses and organizations in good health. When we have a special thing in our area, we want to nourish it. That’s the case with the Piscataquis Regional YMCA. Every year, the PRYMCA asks individuals who care about youth development, healthy living and social responsibility to step forward and donate to the PRYMCA annual campaign, either by mail at 48 Park Street or at www.prymca.org. Without annual donations, the community organization would crumble. Every dollar helps.

In 2014 and again in 2015, Piscataquis County ranked among the unhealthiest counties in Maine. The low rank was because of smoking, physical inactivity, the stress of poverty and access to healthy foods, among other reasons (see www.mainehealth.org/chna for more information).

The PRYMCA is committed to good health; and we engage and support everyone from children to seniors, to pursue a healthy lifestyle.

“The PRYMCA is a place to connect with other people,” says Kelly Hutchinson, child care director. “It’s not only exercise and child care. It helps people feel less isolated.”

The PRYMCA is part of the international Y movement that “believes strong communities are possible only when we invest in our kids, our health and our neighbors.” Y-USA movement provides training, employee benefits, management guidance and more. Though Y-USA offers some grants, it does not provide direct financial support.
