Club marks 80th birthday

DOVER-FOXCROFT — Seventeen members of GFWC/Miosac Club met at the Bear’s Den to celebrate the club’s 80th birthday. A social hour with appetizers prepared by the committee — Dot Finnemore, Roxy McGlauflin and Dot Tonick — was enjoyed. Members circulated and visited as this is the last meeting of the year. A delicious supper was served.

80 YEARS FOR GFWC/MIOSAC CLUB Officers of the GFWC/Miosac Club celebrating the club’s recent  80th birthday at the Bear’s Den in Dover-Foxcroft were, from left, Barb Austin, auditor; Pat Jones, treasurer; Diane Leighton, recording secretary; Roxy McGlauflin, corresponding  secretary; Rheba Michaud, vice president; and Anne Cress, president.

 

Following the dinner, President Vicki Moschella presented her officers with gifts. Anne Cress presented Carol Kilpatrick with a monetary gift for serving as treasurer and also a monetary gift to a retiring President Moschella.

Moschella spoke about GFWC Maine Convention and the awards the club received. She was in charge of the scrapbook and won first prize and a monetary gift in the clubs under 25. She does a wonderful job and has won several years in a row.

Elaine Larson received first place for her entry in the scenic photography contest and it will go on to the next level in June. Members were also excited to win first place in the Community Improvement Project contest with Beautifying the Town” with flags last summer. This project has also gone on to the national level.

Following the presentations, Finnemore conducted some games and winners were presented with potted plants. The fun-filled evening ended with singing “Happy Birthday” and eating the birthday cake. Club is officially over for the summer with a yard sale happening in July. Members will continue to work on their own projects and look forward to gathering in the fall.
