Local man suffers severe burns

ATKINSON — A local man suffered severe burns Saturday night, when his house at 405 Maple Road caught fire. James Wellington, 50, was being treated at Maine Medical Center in Portland, Stephen McCausland, spokesman for the Department of Public Safety, said Monday.

Craig Young, 64, escaped the fire uninjured.

The state fire marshal’s office said the house and an adjacent camper were flattened in the blaze, reported just after 10 p.m. Saturday.

McCausland said the fire is not considered suspicious, but a cause could not be determined because of the extensive damage.
