Penquis Valley students give back to community during Day of Service

MILO — The day before starting April vacation, on Friday, April 15, 390 students at the Penquis Valley School ventured into the SAD 41 community at seven different sites for a Day of Service. The grade 6-12 pupils worked at the Milo Elementary School, Veterans Memorial Park and Harris Field in Milo, Methodist Church, Three River Kiwanis building, Brownville Elementary and the Penquis Valley campus.

DAY OF SERVICE — Nearly 400 Penquis Valley School students spent the day before April vacation out in the SAD 41 community working at seven different sites during a Day of Service.

The purpose of the Day of Service was to give back to the community and also build capacity with students that promotes giving back to both the school and surrounding area. School officials hope the day provided a sense of belonging and responsibility.

The Three Rivers Kiwanis sponsored the Day of Service by providing 500 T-shirts for participants, as well as a place to have kids serve. School officials felt overall it was a great day, capped off with a BBQ-style lunch and free time/carnival game time in the afternoon to celebrate the work that was done.
