Police investigating collision between school buses

DEXTER — Distracted driving is believed to be a factor in a rear-end collision involving two school buses on Route 94 last week, police said.

The collision occurred around 3 p.m. on April 26, Dexter Police Chief Kevin Wintle said.

Wintle said one bus was dropping off a student when the driver of the second bus did not see the other bus stop, and rear-ended it.

The buses were carrying 53 students, ranging from elementary school children to high school students. Five suffered minor injuries, including one 17-year-old girl who was taken to a local hospital.

The names of the bus drivers were not disclosed. Wintle said charges are possible, and the crash remains under investigation.

Wintle and Officer Danny Gatcomb went to the scene. One bus was towed away.
