Fourth Annual Pi Day

STUDENT’S REVENGE SeDoMoCha Middle School fifth-grader Donnie Poole earned the honor of throwing a pie at Assistant Principal Nathan Dyer after being able to recite the most digits of Pi among his grade level — 112 digits of the non-terminating ratio of a circle’s circumference to its diameter. The Dover-Foxcroft school celebrated its fourth annual Pi Day on March 14 with the pie throwing, pie baking competitions and pie eating, hula hoop and jump rope contests.

PIE ATTACK Sixth-grader Miles Gadwah launches a pie at SeDoMoCha School Ed Tech Chris Clarke during the fourth annual Pi Day celebration on the afternoon of March 12. Gadwah and three other grade-level winners earned the right to throw a pie at a staff member by virtue of reciting the greatest number of Pi digits. Gadwah’s total was 55 digits, and he also won the contest last year as a fifth-grader. Pie baking contest winners were most creative, Ben Johnston; best tasting, Diana Demers; and overall appearance, Brad Whitten. Sixteen of the desserts were prepared for the various contests.

FACE PLATE SeDoMoCha Middle School seventh-grader Kaylee Durgin lobs a whipped cream pie at her math teacher Nichole Martin during Pi Day on March 14. Durgin finished as the grade 7 Pi recitation champion by getting up to a digit count of 109. A year ago Durgin won the recitation contest as a sixth-grader, with a then total of 73 digits.

SERVING PI(E) Eighth-grader Jacob Ireland creams his math teacher Laura Moors during the fourth annual SeDoMoCha Middle School Pi Day on March 14. Ireland won his grade level recitation contest with a school-high total of 144 digits. The four grade winners each got to pick a willing staff member to throw a pie at. Certificates were given to the top three finishers in each of the four grade levels.
