Center Theatre hires Myers

DOVER-FOXCROFT — The Center Theatre Board of Directors has announced the hiring of Patrick Myers as the theatre’s executive director. No stranger to the theatre or the position, Myers was the founding executive director until he resigned from the position in late 2010.

A FAMILIAR FACE BACK AT THE CENTER THEATREFounding Center Theatre Executive Director Patrick Myers, who served in the position for about half a decade before resigning in 2010, will be returning to the position. Next year will mark the 10th anniversary of the theatre on East Main Street in Dover-Foxcroft.

While he is returning to the position, both the role of the executive director and the Center Theatre itself have changed in the past five years. “The division of responsibilities and staff positions have changed  considerably,” said Pam Tower, chair of the Center Theatre Board of Directors. “We’re thrilled that Patrick will again be guiding the organization that he worked so hard to begin.”

For his part, Myers agrees that the job is different now, “Back then we were trying to figure out what the theatre was, how it worked, and the best way to manage it to be sustainable in the long-term. The organization has learned quite a bit about what works and what doesn’t. Most of the guesswork is over and we have a fairly clear path to follow to success.”

Myers will be taking the position as an “interim executive director” for a period of one year. Myers and Tower agree this is best for everyone so that both the theatre and Myers have some time to make sure the fit works for everyone. Both are quick to state, however, that they hope Myers will be there for the long-term.

“I’m certainly looking at this as going ‘Back to the Future’,” Myers said, a tongue-in-cheek reference to the movie recently shown at the theatre. “I’m very excited to be back at the theatre; there’s a lot to look forward to. 2016 is the 10th anniversary of the re-opening of the Center Theatre and we’re already talking about the celebrations we’re going to host. There were some folks who didn’t expect us to last this long and even though the road to our 10th anniversary hasn’t always been smooth, we’re ready to celebrate this milestone and will be inviting the community to celebrate as well.”

The Center Theatre is a non-profit performing arts venue located in downtown Dover-Foxcroft dedicated to making the arts a part of life in the Maine Highlands. For more information on the programming and events, go towww.centertheatre.org or call 564-8943.
