Sangerville Future’s Group
News and notes
SANGERVILLE — The Sangerville Future’s Group met Oct. 6 in the Community Room of the town hall. Chris Buchanan acted as the moderator.
A number of topics of importance to the future growth and development of Sangerville were discussed. Agriculture was discussed as an important town value that should be encouraged and supported. Some of the possibilities explored were “food sovereignty,” “right to farm,” commercial and community gardens and land use ordinances to protect existing farms.
Several ways were offered as a way to bring residents together socially, such as sponsoring affinity groups like an ATV club, seniors, etc. The Sangerville Historical Society would like to sponsor a children’s Christmas party and invite other groups, such as the fire department, to join with them.
The development of the second floor of the town hall was considered as an ideal location for community events and groups because of its size, available parking, kitchen facilities and central location. The need for an elevator became a topic of discussion with several positive solutions mentioned. A community group exploring reopening the second floor will be having a second meeting on Oct. 21 at 6:30 p.m. in the Community Room. Everyone is urged to attend.
Protecting the quality of the town’s aquifers has been a subject of planning board discussions and were brought up as needing attention.
Starting a Business Development Corporation was offered as a way to strengthen existing businesses in the town and kick-start the development of new businesses in Sangerville.
To increase residential development, the issue of abandoned and dilapidated RV’s, trailers and building was discussed.
