Former firefighters’ treasurer pleads guilty to theft
DOVER-FOXCROFT — The former treasurer of the Greenville Firefighters Association pleaded guilty on Aug. 31 to two counts of Class C theft by unauthorized taking, according to the office of the Piscataquis County district attorney.
Bruce Reed, 54, of Greenville Junction was sentenced to two years in prison with all but 45 days suspended to be followed by probation for two years. He began his sentence at the Piscataquis County Jail after appearing at the Piscataquis County Courthouse.
Reed was indicted in June by grand jury on two counts of theft that took place over five years between March 2009 and March 2014. One count was related to the embezzlement of funds from the firefighters association. The other charge was related to Reed’s overbilling the town for firefighter training for himself and his time spent fighting fires. He paid $11,000 in restitution to the organization and the town at the time of sentencing.
