PCEDC meeting at Gorman Chairback Lodge

 Contributed Article

DOVER-FOXCROFT – With winter is in the rear-view mirror, the Piscataquis County Economic Development Council is cruising along at spring speeds, and summer is over the next horizon. It couldn’t be a better time to discuss outdoor recreation and tourism.

On that note, the next PCEDC meeting on Monday, June 15 is at a “perfect escape”: The Appalachian Mountain Club’s Gorman Chairback Lodge and Cabins.

Built as a private camp in 1867, Gorman Chairback Lodge and Cabins now features a central “green” lodging building for meals and relaxing.

The lodge is around 20 miles east of downtown Greenville via East Road and Katahdin Iron Works Road.

In keeping with the host’s location, the meeting and dinner from 4-7 p.m. presents a great opportunity to talk about outdoor recreation and tourism.

AMC will provide an update on their focus in the Moosehead Region, and provide PCEDC members with an opportunity to hear more about who they are.

Mike Wilson, from the Northern Forest Center will join the session to provide an update on the Maine Woods Consortium. In addition, Wilson will speak to the new matching grant program launched by the Northern Forest Center.

To RSVP, contact AMC at (603) 466-2727 and let them know you are interested in the PCEDC June quarterly dinner. The normal $20 dinner fee applies – tax included. Patrons can either pay at the time of reservation or the night of the meeting.

AMC has also partnered with PCEDC to create an opportunity specifically for council members.

On the evening of June 15, PCEDC members can experience AMC lodging, food, and recreation at a deeply discounted rate. Based on double occupancy in a cabin with baths and showers in the main lodge, the price is $50 per person per night plus 8 percent tax.

This offer includes the PCEDC dinner, lodging and breakfast as well as the KIJM Forest gate fee.

Based on single occupancy in a cabin with baths and showers in the main lodge, the price is $75 per person per night plus 8 percent tax with the same amenities.

Reservations can be made by calling (603) 466-2727 Monday through Saturday 9 a.m.-5 p.m. To access this deal, please mention group reservation No. 286661. The group file name is Piscataquis Economic Development.
