‘Jungle Book’ opens April 10 at Center Theatre

DOVER-FOXCROFT — The Center Theatre is gearing up for opening night of the new children’s production of the “Jungle Book” on April 10 at 7 p.m. The production, written by Vera Morris and directed by Bobby Keniston, is presented by special arrangement with Pioneer Drama Service. The play, based on the beloved stories of Rudyard Kipling, follows the story of Mowgli the boy raised in the jungle and his struggle against the tiger Shere Kahn. The all children’s cast brings the jungle to life with a large cast of colorful jungle characters.

Keniston says that directing the play has been very rewarding, “The kids have been working hard on the production and we’re all excited to show off our work to the community.” According to Keniston, participation in a play is much more than just memorizing lines and reciting them. “Being in a play is a great opportunity for the kids to learn about being part of a team. The kids have to learn to focus and listen to each other as they’re acting. They learn they can do something wonderful by working together.”
Keniston says the play is very entertaining for the whole family and he hopes the kids have good audiences for each performance. The cast will also be performing for area schools during the day on April 15. The production at the Center Theatre opens on Friday the 10th and continues Saturday the 11th at 7 p.m., Sunday the 12th at 1 p.m. and the next weekend on Friday the 17th at 7 p.m. and Saturday the 18h at 2 and 7 p.m.
For tickets and more information please call the Center Theatre at 564-8943 or stop by at 20 East Main Street between the hours of 10 a.m. and 3 p.m. Monday through Friday. The Center Theatre is a non-profit performing arts center dedicated to making the arts a part of life in the Maine Highlands.
