GFWC/Miosac Club hosts art contest
DOVER-FOXCROFT — The local High School Art Contest, sponsored by the GFWC/Miosac Club, was held March 22 at the Dover-Foxcroft Congregational Church. About 40 people attended to see the works of art from four area high schools, Greenville, Foxcroft Academy, Penquis Valley and Piscataquis Community.
Five students from each school entered their works of art. Suzette East again served as judge, and East told the artists what she saw in the works and encouraged them. This is very helpful to the students — several were not able to be present due to the weather with high winds and messy roads.
Winners were first place, Clayton Tarnoczy Penquis; second place, Gloria Oh Foxcroft Academy; third place, Ella Hong Foxcroft Academy; and honorable mention, Aaron Goodine Penquis. Goodine also won the People’s Choice honor. These winning pieces of art will go to the GFWC District 3 Meeting in Brewer in April. Winners of that show will go on the GFWC Maine Art Contest in May.
The GFWC/Miosac Club is proud to sponsor this Art Contest and the students who so diligently strive to achieve artistic standings. They thank the Three Rivers and Dover-Foxcroft Kiwanis for donations presented to the art teachers to assist with their programs.
Members of the committee were Elaine Larson, Rheba Michaud, Carol Kilpatrick and Suzanne Raymond. At the show GWC/Miosac Club members served refreshments that were enjoyed by all.
