Bangor Savings Bank peanut butter drive launched to help food pantries

BANGOR — Bangor Savings Bank is stepping forward again in an effort to fight hunger. During the month of March, Bangor Savings Bank will be collecting jars of peanut butter and jelly to benefit local food pantries and other hunger relief programs in Maine.

Donations can be made at any of the 56 Bangor Savings Bank branch locations including Dexter, Dover-Foxcroft and Greenville.
“Since launching this program in 2012, Bangor Savings’ Peanut Butter and Jelly Drive continues to grow,” said Lisa Bird, Bangor Savings Bank’s assistant vice president and senior community relations coordinator. “Last year we collected over 7,000 jars of peanut butter and jelly. Our goal is to increase that number this year, so that more families will have access to a protein-rich, non-perishable food that will make a big difference in their daily lives.”
Bangor Savings Bank is asking the public to help Mainers in need by dropping off jars of peanut butter and jelly — all sizes and types accepted — during the month of March at any Bangor Savings Bank branch.
Donors are also encouraged to take a “selfless selfie” while they are at the bank branch donating and send it to socialmedia@bangor.com. For each selfie received, the bank will donate an additional two jars of peanut butter to the drive. The selfies will be shared on the Bangor Savings Bank Facebook page during the month of March  as well.
The peanut butter and jelly donations will be distributed to a food relief program in each of the 56 branch location communities.
Bangor Savings is receiving generous support from media partners WLBZ-TV/Channel 2, WCSH-TV/Channel 6, and Maine Internet Radio LLC to increase awareness of the 2015 Peanut Butter & Jelly Drive.
