DOVER FOXCROFT – Phyllis (Dickson) Weatherbee, 92, drew near to God and was cradled in His loving arms on December 29, 2014. He allowed her to depart from her home in Dover-Foxcroft peacefully with family by her side as she had wished. Phyllis was born on the family farm in Sebec, on April 24, 1922, to Seaforth Brougham and Grace L. (Hagar) Dickson.
Phyllis attended Grammar School at Sebec Corner and graduated from Milo High School in 1940. She graduated from Maine School of Commerce (The predecessor to Husson University) in 1942. She was employed by Rice and Miller in Bangor, the Selective Service Office and Ward’s Store in Dover-Foxcroft, finishing her employment career with 23 years in the Probate Office, retiring as Register of Probate in 1986.
Phyllis was a member of the Dover-Foxcroft United Church of Christ, Dover-Foxcroft American Legion Auxiliary, Unit #29, Junior Cosmopolitan Club, charter member and past president of the Women’s Community Garden Club, former member of the kitchen crew at the Congregational Church, and a volunteer at Meals on Wheels.
Phyllis was well known for her carrot casserole, lemon squares, and coffee cakes that found their way to homes and public suppers for many years. She was a member of the original “Chicken Pie Supper” kitchen crew and one of the mainstays for “Legion Dinners” for many years. She is also known by individuals for her “random acts of kindness” when they were dealing with personal challenges.
Phyllis was predeceased by her husband, Kermit Weatherbee; a dear sister, Martha (Dickson) Schwarz; and a Shih Tzu granddog, Opie, who kept her company for many years.
She is survived by her son, David Weatherbee and his wife, Marie (Heath), of Millinocket; a granddaughter, Beth Weatherbee and her partner, Dallas Reed, of North Wolcott, Vermont; a grandson, Heath Weatherbee of Kailua-Kona, Hawaii; and a great-granddaughter, Vanessa Cousins, a senior at Johnson State College in Johnson, Vermont.
Phyllis is also survived by an outstanding cadre of friends and neighbors who took her places, shared their families with her and cared for her when she needed help. These include, but are not limited to Harold and Brenda Quiet, Roxy and Ron McGlauflin, Amy, Nick, and Natalie Cannon, Donna Hathaway, Pastor Chad Poland, Linda Frazier, and her event coordinator and chauffer, Suzanne Stacy.
