Tobacco-Free Hospital Network honors C.A. Dean

GREENVILLE — Seven EMHS hospitals are once again being recognized by the Maine Tobacco-Free Hospital Network for excellence in creating a tobacco-free environment for patients, employees, and the community. Among those receiving the Gold Star Award, the highest level of recognition given by the Maine Tobacco-Free Hospital Network, is C.A. Dean Memorial Hospital.

“This is wonderful news,” commented  Robert Thompson, MD, senior vice president and chief medical officer for EMHS. “Tobacco use is a leading cause of many known chronic health issues in Maine and healthcare providers should be leading the charge against tobacco use. I am so pleased to see that our EMHS hospitals have taken a leadership role.”
The Maine Tobacco-Free Hospital Network has recognized hospitals for reducing tobacco use since 2007. The organization was initiated by the Partnership for a Tobacco Free Maine and the American Cancer Society of New England. Other partners include the Breathe Easy Coalition of Maine,  Healthy Maine Partnerships, Maine Hospital Association and MaineHealth.
