Jack Edward Swicker, Jr.

SWICKER, Jack Edward Jr., Oakland, at Waterville, October 8, 2014. Arrangements are under the care of Gallant Funeral Home, Waterville.

PO Jack Swicker Waterville – On October 8, 2014, Jack Edward Swicker, Jr. of Oakland, shook off his earthly bonds and entered the Kingdom of Heaven, no doubt dancing and shouting praise to The King. We know he is welcomed by his Savior with the proclamation of “Well done thou good and faithful servant. Enter thou into the joy of the Lord.”
Jack graduated from Berkshire Christian College with a Bachelor’s degree in Theology which he put to good use preaching and teaching in a variety of venues such as Transport for Christ, Inland Hospital as a volunteer chaplain, Rome Baptist Church as a preacher, and as a pastor of churches in Port Clyde, Dover-Foxcroft and New Britain, CT. He really enjoyed his group at Seton Village and various cell groups over the years.
Jack enjoyed tinkering with electronics and earned his Hamm radio license of which he was quite proud.
Jack is survived by his beautiful wife and favorite nurse of 50 years, Shirley Pratt Swicker. Best described as partner in crime, together they have had a lot of fun telling silly jokes at the groaning of their children. We never knew what they would do next. They have shared their faith with hundreds and truly lived the life of “Go Tell It on the Mountain.”  Throughout Jack’s battle with cancer, they prayed together and gave thanks daily for all God’s blessings.
Jack is predeceased by his parents,  Jack E. Swicker Sr., and Margaret Thornton Swicker of Lenox, MA. He is survived by his siblings Charles and his wife Bert of Lanesboro, MA; and sisters, Lynn Doyle of FL and Beverly Swicker as well as numerous nieces and nephews.
Jack’s legacy is his children and they are; first born, David Swicker of Oakland, favorite daughter Ruth, her husband Phil and their children Connor and Paige of Rome and the next preacher in the family, Jonathan, his wife Lisa and their children Faith, Lily, Grace and Violet of Rumford, RI. Jack will certainly meet Jon’s baby number five in heaven before she arrives here on earth in January.
The family would like to thank the staff at Lakewood Continuing Care who were so kind and caring during Jack’s stay and Beacon Hospice for their support while Jack was at home. Special thanks to his caregivers, Teoma, Lynn, Kaitlyn, Esther, Sherry and Cindy.
Visiting hours were held Saturday, October 11, 2014 from 2-4 and 6-8 p.m. at Gallant Funeral Home, 10 Elm Street, Waterville. A celebration of his life was held on Sunday,  October 12, 2014 at 2 p.m. at the Centerpoint Community Church, 60 West River Rd, Waterville.  Following the reception at the church burial was held in Howards Cemetery,  Augusta Rd., Winslow.
Our dad would want everyone to know that it is well with his soul and that Jesus is coming soon.  Be ready!
