Donald Charles Templet

PO-DonaldTempletOBGUILFORD, ME & ST. PETERSBURG, FL – Donald Charles Templet, entered into eternal rest on October 6, 2014. He was born in Baton Rouge, Louisiana, September 15, 1919, the son of E.C. and Mabel Templet.
    Donald graduated from Louisiana State University with a Bachelor Degree, and served as a lieutenant in the U.S. Coast Guard during WWII. After the war, he met Virginia Cartwright and married in December 1945. For the following 30 years, he worked as the Sales Manager for Hardwood Products Company where he shared a partnership in the company with Virginia’s two brothers, Joseph and Edgar Cartwright.
    Donald was an avid athlete enjoying tennis, sailing, and golfing, and also had a passion and love for downhill skiing. While living in Guilford, he volunteered many hours of community service to both the Guilford Kiwanis Club, and the Piscataquis Country Club. He was also an active member of the Guilford United Methodist Church.
    Donald was predeceased by his first wife, Virginia Cartwright Templet in 1975; and later a son, Todd Gleason Templet in 1988.
    After retiring from Hardwood products, he moved to St. Petersburg, FL, where he married Dorothy Collins Wilkerson. For the remainder of his life, Donald and Dorothy have resided in St. Petersburg, FL.
    Don was a charismatic southern gentleman with a kind heart, quick wit and a giving soul. He was one of a kind, and will be sorely missed by all who knew him.
    He is survived by his wife, Dorothy Wilkerson Templet of St. Petersburg, FL; a daughter, Suzanne Templet Young and her husband, William of Fayette, ME; a son, Timothy Lance Templet and his wife, Elise of Cumberland Foreside, ME; a daughter-in-law, Margaret Templet Drummond and her husband, Richard of Guilford, ME; three step-children, DeAnne Wilkerson Hutchison and her husband, Thomas of Orlando, FL, Kitty Wilkerson Cottrill and her husband, Christopher of Greensboro, GA, Dewitt Wilkerson III and his wife, Patricia of St. Petersburg, FL; six grandchildren, Melissa Ann Templet of Vail, CO, Megan Elizabeth Templet of Chicago, IL, Benjamin Templet Young of Great Barrington, MA, Virginia Ann Templet of Portland, ME, Annah Ruth Cartwright Young of San Francisco, CA, and Eliza Cosgrove Templet of Boston, MA; nieces and nephews.
    A celebration of Donald’s life was held 2 p.m., Sunday, October 12, 2014, at the Guilford United Methodist Church, with Pastor Reeni Cipullo officiating. Burial was in the Elmwood Cemetery in Guilford. In lieu of flowers donations may be sent to Pine Tree Hospice, 883 W. Main St., Dover Foxcroft, ME 04426. Arrangements by Crosby & Neal, Guilford.
