MLREDC presentation scheduled for Greenville selectmen’s meeting

Staff Report

GREENVILLE — Members of the Moosehead Lake Region Economic Development Corporation are scheduled to give an update on their recent activities at the Aug. 20 Greenville Board of Selectmen’s meeting, according to Town Manager John Simko.
The MLREDC will also present details of a “planning exercise which is designed to improve the future economy of the entire Moosehead Lake region,” Simko wrote in an email last weekend.

The corporation was instrumental in bringing GlacierWear, a manufacturer of high-end fur and leather hats, vests, scarves and other products, to the Greenville Business Center. The company will start production and mail order processing next month.
Other items on Wednesday night’s agenda include an appointment to the Airport Advisory Committee. Selectman Josh Brown, who was elected to his position in June, has stepped down from the advisory committee and Suzannah Sinclair, who lives adjacent to the airport and who has served on the Public Advisory Committee for the airport master plan update, has asked to be appointed to the committee.
The board will also open bids for a new public works truck and Simko and public works foreman Mark Bernier will make recommendations on the proposed purchase.
A lease for the property where the connector building between the Shaw Public Library and the Davis annex is slated to be built is back on the agenda after being tabled at the last meeting.
The connector building will link the old library to the annex which has a children’s library, kitchen, office space, handicapped-accessible rest rooms and a community meeting room.
The Shaw Public Library Association has secured the funds necessary to build the addition, so the paperwork will more than likely be finalized at this meeting.
The Aug. 20 meeting gets underway at 6:30 p.m.
