Standoff ends in fatal shooting by state trooper
LAGRANGE — A state trooper shot and killed a man involved in a standoff in LaGrange during the late afternoon and early evening of Aug. 3.
As is standard protocol with police involved shootings, the Maine Attorney General’s Office will investigate the circumstances of the shooting said Maine Department of Public Safety spokesman Stephen McCausland.
McCausland said 49-year-old Lewis Conlogue of LaGrange was armed and had held police at bay for approximately three hours outside the site of a former restaurant, “Highland Farm”, along Route 16. The shooting was at 5572 Bennoch Road and Conlogue died at the scene.
Maine State Police Sgt. Scott Hamilton has been placed on administrative leave with pay, which is standard state police procedure, while the incident is being investigated.
