ABBOT — The Abbot Historical Society is well into the summer season with many activities. The museum is open Wednesday afternoons from 1-3 p.m. and will open for special requests, if at all possible. For more information, call Carolyn at 876-3041. New genealogical information has been donated by Robert Davidson and added to the museum’s growing collection.

The society is actively planning a fun and historical project with the Monson Historical Society and the Blanchard Preservation Society.
On Saturday afternoon, Aug. 9, the Abbot Historical Society will be observing the 100th anniversary of the Piscataquis County Historical Society’s marking and commemorating the 198th anniversary of the moosehorns which were originally “planted” by Joseph Bearce in 1817. The moosehorns are a familiar landmark in Upper Abbot, located just before the Monson town line.
The festivities will include some barbershop quartet music, welcomes from some of the descendants, a PowerPoint program about  the moosehorn history  at the Abbot Town Hall, a birthday cake, and then — to top off the afternoon — a bean-hole dinner at the home of Paul and Louise Vainio in Blanchard.
Many interesting and fun exhibits and activities are in the planning stages, which promise to make this a happy birthday celebration. More information will be forthcoming in a few weeks.
Monthly meetings of the Abbot Historical Society take place at the Abbot town hall on the fourth Tuesday of the month. Everyone is welcome.
