USDA announces funding for PRYMCA and Shaw Public Library

USDA Rural Development State Director Virginia Manuel has announced funding packages have been awarded to both the Piscataquis Regional YCMA and the Shaw Public Library.

The PRYMCA in Dover-Foxcroft has been selected to receive $35,000 through a Rural Economic Impact Initiative Grant. Funds will be used to upgrade heating and ventilation systems at the facility on Park Street.
The PRYMCA serves many individuals in the area through programs and services for all ages. Staff provide after school care for children, swim lessons, aquatic exercise for the physically challenged and disabled, endless senior classes for fitness and nutrition as well as dance, art and music.
The Shaw Public Library Association, in Greenville, has been selected to receive a community facility loan of $46,500 and grant of $50,000. Rural Development funds will be used to build a connector building between the annex and the library to increase efficiency and coordination between the two buildings. The project will provide ADA service to the library, as well as an ADA bathroom.
Manuel said, “USDA Rural Development is contributing to thriving Maine communities through today’s investments which support value-added business ingenuity, community learning, healthcare, fitness, and education. I am pleased that these essential USDA Rural Development investments will have a lasting benefit to the residents of these Maine communities.”
