MONSON — Jack Daily of Salt Lake City won his fifth consecutive Slate Man Triathlon at the Monson Summerfest last weekend with a record time of 26:03 while Trish Moulton of Abbot took the ladies’ trophy with a time of 35:25.
The combination of a run, kayak and bicycling event over a six-mile stretch went smoothly for Daily, even though he was edged in the run portion by Bates College classmate Joe Doyle of Glastonbury, Conn.

“Joe got me in the run, but I took him in the water,” joked Daily. “The weather was much nicer this year than last, for sure. But I enjoy the challenge because you never can tell who’s going to show up.”
Doyle said he had never paddled a kayak until Saturday, so Daily had the clear advantage in that portion of the race. “This was really fun,” Doyle said. “I hope to come back next year with Jack.”
The winning team “Just Visiting” consisted of two Georgia ladies – Miranda Stormer of Kingsland and Jamie Rogers of Fayetteville – and Wendy Krembs of Winsooski, Vt.
“We’ll be back next year,” said Stormer. “This is a lovely town and a great race.”
It was Rogers’ first visit to Maine and undoubtedly a memorable one. “My first visit here and I win a trophy. How cool is that?” Rogers said.
Krembs said she’s been coming to Monson “most of my life during the summer. This is a nice part of the festival. The three events are really challenging but fun.”
