DOVER-FOXCROFT — Thirteen competitors and a pair of three-person teams traveled by water, bike and on foot during the Piscataquis Regional YMCA’s fifth annual Tri for the Y Sprint Triathlon on the morning of July 19. The entrants swam a half mile of Sebec Lake, biked 12 miles from the public beach to the PRYMCA and then finished with a looping five kilometer run to the finish line.
Revaz Boukla repeated as the triathlon winner, as he covered the three events in a combined time of 1 hour, 10 minutes and four seconds — nearly two minutes faster than his 2013 performance.
Following the competition, those taking part, triathlon volunteers, spectators, PRYMCA staff and others gathered in the fitness room for the awards presentation. “You guys did a great job, this year there were some really fast times,” PRYMCA Executive Director Deb Boyd said.
“We have wanted air conditioning in this room for years and now we finally have it,” she said, as the assembled group enjoyed the climate-controlled conditions after a morning under the sun. Boyd thanked Dave’s World of Dover-Foxcroft for its donation of an air conditioning system to cool both the fitness and weight rooms.
Prizes for the winners in the various male and female age groups included a choice of gift certificates to Will’s Shop ‘n Save in Dover-Foxcroft, Subway or movie passes to the Center Theatre. The top age division finishers also received medals for their efforts.
“Thank you guys so much for coming this year,” Boyd said, adding that organizers hope to have more competitors take part in next year’s event.
