More events added to the schedule of next month’s Sangerville’s Bicentennial Celebration

    SANGERVILLE — Excitement is building in Sangerville as the community observes its 200th birthday on the weekend of June 13-14.
    On Friday, June 13, 2014, the Sangerville Post Office will be offering postal cancellation in honor of the bicentennial.
    The Bicentennial Committee is still looking for rhubarb desserts for their contest. For more information, contact Cynthia at 564-7717. Dessert contest entries will be judged on Friday, June 13 at the town hall community room. Special bicentennial prizes will be offered to the winners.

    Saturday, June 14 starts with a bicycle decorating contest.  Entrants should report to the Abner Wade Masonic Lodge parking lot at 8:30 a.m. for judging. The event is being sponsored by the lodge. Ribbons will be awarded and all decorated bicycles will be featured in the parade.
    The parade starts at 10 a.m. and will feature more than 50 units. There will be a $500 Grange Float Challenge and the celebratory, 6-foot wooden cake designed by woodworking students from PCSS will be featured in the parade and be displayed in the center of town.
    At 11 a.m., Friends of Sangerville Fire Department will be barbequing chicken and hosting bingo from 12-4 p.m.
    At 11:30 a.m., there will be celebratory “ringing of the bells” and other food and craft vendors will be available.
    The family of Phineas Ames will be featured in our parade and recognized in our opening ceremony and the family of Sir Hiram Maxim will appear and bring Maxim artifacts for public viewing.
    A legislative sentiment will be presented by Representative Paul Davis.
    The Sangerville Historical Museum will open to the public at 11 a.m.
    Maine Highlands Federal Credit Union will sell bicentennial t-shirts at their bank locations as well as at the bicentennial celebration.
    Free horse and wagon rides will take place from 11:30 a.m. – 2:30 p.m.
    Family and individual photos from photographer Mike Brown may be purchased for $5.
    Face painting will be available in the children’s area by members of the Abbot Evangelical Church and also at the Sangerville Public Library.
    The “Step in Time” cloggers will perform throughout the afternoon.
    There will be an art walk and silent auction and poetry contest. Exhibit will be created by students of PCSS.
    The committee has added some new games to our children’s area: a Frisbee throwing contest and sack races for ages 3-12.  Free Kool-Aid and washable tattoos, too.
    The Sangerville Community Forest Committee will have a dedicating ceremony at 4 p.m. of the bicentennial commemorative trees they planted on Arbor Day.
    Multiple bands will be performing throughout the day. “Elvis” impersonator EP Rock performs from 12-2 p.m. sponsored by the Maine Highlands Federal Credit Union.
    The Monson Jammers will perform from 2:15-3:30 p.m. to benefit the Maine Fiddle Camp.
    The Resistance Band will appear from 4:45-7 p.m. at the Veterans Memorial Recreational Field.
    The band Palpitations will play from 7-9:30 p.m. at the Rec Field.
    Grand finale for the evening will be a spectacular fireworks display presented by Atlas PyroVison Productions, Inc. Fireworks rain date will be Sunday, June 15.
