DAR essay contest winner
The Maine Daughters of the American Revolution (DAR) are proud to announce the state winner of the Christopher Columbus Essay Contest, Tiffany A. Smith from the Esther Eayers Chapter in Orono. The title of the essay was, “How do Americans view Christopher Columbus and George Washington today?” Additionally, her essay has also won the northeast regional and Smith is now competing against seven others for first place in the national division.
Smith is the daughter of Gilbert and Barbara Smith from Bradford and has one sister, Rachael. Smith is home schooled by her parents and is in the 10th grade. She enjoys spending her free time writing her novel, reading, writing on her blog Fearless Reads and playing guitar. Smith works at the family business, Country Junction Greenhouse & Gardens for her grandmother, Sally Smith. She participates in three varsity sports at Central High School, soccer, basketball, and softball. Smith has previously taken Taekwondo and currently does guitar lessons, which are taught by her mother.
Her goal is to become a writer so she can inspire others through her love of writing.
