American Flag ColorDEXTER – James Rattigan, 88, died March 30, 2014, at a Bangor hospital. He was born January 10, 1926, in Carrownorlaur, County Tuam, Ireland, a son of Thomas and Anne (Donnelly) Rattigan.
    He was educated in the Irish school system. He came to America in 1951. After spending two years in the U.S. Army, he resided in Brooklyn, NY, for two years before moving to his home on the Airport Road in Dexter, where he raised his family.
    Jim retired as a machinist at Fay-Scott Landis in Dexter after 35 years. He was a communicant of St. Anne’s Church, Our Lady of the Snows Parish and was a longtime member of the Cardinal Mercer Knights of Columbus. He was a lifetime member of the Shirley B. Carter Post Veterans of Foreign Wars. He was also a member of the Poulliot-Seavey Post American Legion.
    Jim enjoyed riding around Dexter, keeping up with the flow of the town and very much enjoyed his duties at the VFW and all of the programs associated with it.
    He is survived by four sons, James and wife, Vicki of Harpswell, Danny and companion, Liza of Winchester, TN, Chris of Dexter, Michael and companion, Patsy of Sangerville; two brothers, Thomas of Long Island, NY, and Brendan of Ireland; three sisters, Atracta, Celia and Josephine, all of Ireland; seven grandchildren; 12 great-grandchildren; and numerous nieces and nephews.
    He was predeceased by a son, Patrick; two sisters, Mary Julia and Irene; and two brothers, John and Christopher.
    Friends called from 6-8 p.m., Friday, April 4, at Crosby & Neal, 61 Main St., Dexter. A Mass of Christian Burial was celebrated 10 a.m., Saturday, April 5, at St. Anne’s Church, Free St., Dexter, with the Rev. Fr. Joseph Cahill officiating. Spring committal services will be held at Mt. Pleasant Cemetery, Dexter. Memorial donations may be made to the Shirley B. Carter Post 4298 VFW, P. O. Box 441, Dexter, ME 04930.
