Irene T. Smith

SMITH, Irene T., 96, Dover-Foxcroft, at Bangor, March 11, 2014. A Celebration of Life will be held 11 a.m., March 29, 2014, at the United Baptist Church, Milo. Arrangements are in the care of the Lary Funeral Home, Dover-Foxcroft.

Irene T. Smith

    Dover-Foxcroft – Irene T. Smith, age 96, wife of the former Lucian E. Sawyer, who died November 1969; and wife of the late Roland C. Smith. After a brief illness, she died March 11, 2014, at EMMC. She was born March 29, 1917, in Winter Harbor, Maine. The daughter of Milton W. and Vera A. (Rolfe) Torrey.
    For many years, Irene worked in the Dry Good Store in Milo. After she married Roland, she worked in his sporting goods store until they retired in 1982. They spent a few winters in Florida. After building their house in Atkinson, they decided to stay there. She was a wonderful cook and enjoyed getting meals for everyone.
    She was predeceased by her parents; first husband, Lucian E. Sawyer; son, Edward Sawyer; son-in-law, Donald H. Smith; two sisters and their husbands: Marie and Allison Workman, Eleanor and Everett Stewart.
    She is survived by her daughter, Nancy L. Smith of Atkinson; daughter-in-law, Carol Jean Sawyer of Milo; several grandchildren; great-grandchildren; four great-great-grandchildren; nieces and nephews; and one special cousin, Elsie.
    Her “Celebration of Life” will be March 29 at the Baptist Church in Milo. The service will be at 11 a.m. with refreshments after. Spring burial will be in Evergreen Cemetery in Milo.  Arrangements are in the care of the Lary Funeral Home.  Condolences and memories may be expressed at www.laryfuneralhome.com.
