LAPORTE, George Edward, 84, Parkman, February 14, 2014. A memorial service will be conducted 11 a.m. March 8, 2014, at the Dover-Foxcroft Congregational Church. Arrangements are in the care of the Lary Funeral Home, Dover-Foxcroft.
PARKMAN, ME – George Edward LaPorte, DDS FAGD, 84, husband of Bernice (Sampson) LaPorte, crossed over peacefully February 14, 2014, surrounded by family and friends. He was born June 11, 1929, in Providence, RI, the son of George Elzar and Catherine Mary (Lawton) LaPorte Manter.
A U.S. Air Force veteran, George served his country from 1947-1954. He graduated from the University of Buffalo School of Dentistry in New York in 1960, and operated a dental practice in North Kingstown, RI, for over 30 years, residing in Narragansett, RI, before moving to Parkman, ME, permanently. He was a graduate of the Pankey Institute, and a member of the American Dental Association, the Rhode Island Dental Association, the Maine Dental Association, and the Big Pine Gun Club.
George was an avid fisherman and lover of the outdoors. He had constructed three pairs of snowshoes in the Eskimo way, from cutting down the tree, bending the framework, to lacing the shoe itself. He lived in harmony with the earth as it taught him to respect the animals, and the spirit and power of nature.
He is survived by his wife, Bernice, of Parkman; six daughters, Catherine McKenzie and Jim Greehey of Dexter, ME, Georgette LaPorte of Louisville, KY, Khristine Elder and husband, Bill, of Ryegate, VT, Nancy Vignola of New York City, NY, Marilyn Dockry and husband, Arthur, of Cranston, RI, and Joyce “Britta” Keech and husband, Larry, of Virginia Beach, VA; ten grandchildren; and six great-grandchildren.
A memorial service will be conducted 11 a.m. March 8, 2014, at the Dover-Foxcroft Congregational Church, with Rev. Chad Poland officiating.
