DRHS alum makes Off-Broadway debut

NEW YORK — 2008 Dexter Regional High School graduate Allison Smith will be making her Off-Broadway debut in “With Love” in February during the Strawberry One-Act Festival.
Smith, a recent theater graduate of the University of Maine and is now a Boston-based actress, will play the character Angelica in “With Love” which premieres on the evening of Feb. 15 at the Theater at St. Clement’s. “With Love” is a new one-act play that finds the character Jack unintentionally stuck in a waiting room with Fish as he is forced to confront his own issues, while Angelica (played by Smith) and Claire struggle in their own pursuit for teenage love and acceptance.

Smith’s past credits include Shelly in “Buried Child”, Kate Monster in “Avenue Q” and Lil’Bit in “How I Learned to Drive.” She, her cast mates, the playwright/producer and director/producer will all be making their Off-Broadway debuts in “With Love.”
The Strawberry One-Act Festival is a play competition in which the audience and a panel of judges cast their votes to select the best play of the season. Twice a year, hundreds of plays from across the country are submitted, with only a handful selected for inclusion in the competition.
Plays move from the first round to the semifinals and then the finals. The playwright of the winning play earns the opportunity to have a full-length play developed by the Riant Theatre. The awards to be presented are Best Play, Best Director, Best Actor, and Best Actress.
The 2014 Strawberry One-Act Festival will take place from Thursday, Feb. 13  to Sunday, Feb. 23 and the full lineup of plays is available on their website at www.therianttheatre.com.
