HERMON – Henry W. Stupakewicz, age 93, died Jan. 7, 2014, at his home. Henry was born in Newbury, Mass., the son of Polish immigrants, and was the fourth of five siblings.
    He graduated from Salem (Mass.) High School, Franklin Technical Institute (Boston), San Francisco State College (B.S.), Armed Forces Industrial College, and Lowell (Mass.) State College (M.Ed.); and took other post-graduate studies at the University of Maine in Orono. He was a member of the American Legion, VFW, DAV, MOAA, National EOD Association, and K of C (4th deg).
    During his lifetime, he worked as a store clerk, machinist, tool designer, vocational school instructor, shop teacher, and professional potter. Drafted into the Army during WWII, he worked in Bomb Disposal, Explosive Ordnance Disposal, and ammunition supply; and retired as Lt. Col. after 26 years of service.
    He is survived by his wife, Clara; their nine children, Thomas, Carla, Anna, Judy, Ellen, Peter, Edward, Matthew and David; 26 grandchildren; 42 great-grandchildren; and three great-great-grandchildren. He is also survived by his close friend of many years, Norma McGinley.
    Mass of Christian Burial and celebration of his life will be 1 p.m., Saturday, January 18, 2014, at St. John’s Catholic Church, Bangor. A remembrance get-together will be held next July 4 at a time and place to be announced.
