FA wrestling finishes fourth at McDonald’s Invitational
RUMFORD — The Foxcroft Academy wrestling team joined squads in Classes A-C from across Maine at the annual McDonald’s-Mountain Valley Invitational Dec. 14 at Mountain Valley High School.
The Ponies finished the competition with a score of 113 points to place fourth out of 18 teams. Foxcroft trailed only the third-place host school’s 123.5 points, 136 points for Noble High School of Berwick and Ellsworth High School in first place with 138.5 points.
Brooks Law earned Outstanding Wrestler honors by winning in the championship finals at 145 pounds. In the finals Law finished just ahead of Zach Stevens of Lisbon High School in the point total at 4-3.
Todd Francis also won his weight class for Foxcroft. Francis advanced to the 160-pound championship round, where he won be forfeit over Jesse Hutchinson of Dirigo High School of Dixfield.
Reaching the finals were Antonio Ayala and Corbyn Bruce at 120 and 220 pounds respectively. The two fell by pin fall at the 3:15 and 2:50 marks.
Billy Brock finished in third place in the 152-pound division. Brock pinned Kyle Dexter of Oxford Hills High School of South Paris at the 1:14-mark of the consolation finals.
In fourth place were Foxcroft’s Eli Olson and Isaac Whittemore. Olson was edged in the 126-pound consolation finals by Ellsworth’s Robert Banner, 5-0, and Mike Provencher of Mountain Valley had a 5-4 win over Whittemore in the 132-pound consolation finals.
