Canada lynx shot near Haymock Lake

    TOWNSHIP 7, RANGE 11 — The U.S Fish and Wildlife Service (USFWS) and the Maine Warden Service are asking for any information regarding a Canada lynx that was shot and killed in Piscataquis County during the first week of November.

    The Canada lynx was found near the Haymock Lake Campground in the North Maine Woods on Nov. 7. Haymock Lake is about 80 miles northeast of Greenville off the Telos Road.
    The USFWS is offering a reward of up to $2,500 for information leading to the arrest and conviction of the person or persons responsible for killing the animal.
    The Canada lynx is listed as a threatened species under the federal Endangered Species Act. Unlawfully killing a Canada lynx carries a maximum fine of up to $25,000 and or imprisonment up to six months.
