The real threats to children
To the Editor:
There are some people that think the greatest threat to children’s welfare is living in poverty. I have to disagree. I was born in 1935 and America was in the middle of a Great Depression and jobs were hard to find. There were many children living in poverty and parents would deprive themselves for the welfare of the children. The parents did not need money to give their children love and affection and to teach personal responsibility along with the golden rule.
There are two other threats to children’s welfare than just living in poverty. The first one is being sexually abused, and that lasts a lifetime. The second is having self-centered parents that think it’s OK to commit adultery and don’t care if children grow up in broken homes with hate and anger in their hearts.
