Local pair runs at state collegiate X-C championship

    WATERVILLE — Two college runners from the region took part in the 2013 State of Maine Women’s College Cross Country Championship on Oct. 19 at Colby College.
    University of Southern Maine junior Emily Panciera, a resident of Monson and graduate of Foxcroft Academy, covered the five kilometer course in 21 minutes, 21.3 seconds. Panciera placed 34th in a field of 121 entrants, and was the fourth member of the Huskies to cross the finish line.

    Placing 80th at the meet was Husson University sophomore Sierra Murray of Greenville, a graduate of Greenville High School. Murray’s time was 24:21.20.
    Southern Maine earned a score of 113 points to place fourth among Maine’s 10 Div. III women’s cross country teams. Husson was right behind in fifth place with a score of 135 points.
    Bates College won the women’s title with 32 points, and in second place was host Colby with 52 points. Placing first was Bowdoin College sophomore Lucy Skinner in a time of 19:00.80.
