Girl Scouts donate to PAWS
MILO — Girl Scout Troop 712 decided to do a community service project in their hometown of Milo. The girls chose PAWS (Penquis Animal Welfare Sanctuary) which is located at 39 Clinton Street. It is a no kill, no cage shelter which depends on donations and fundraisers to pay the day to day expenses.

PAWS IS THEIR CAUSE — Members of Girl Scout Troop 712 in Milo delivered needed items to PAWS during a visit on Oct. 9. Pictured with some of the cats at the shelter is, from left, Tiffany Young, Becky Ruge, Hannah McKissick, Lydia Farnsworth and MacKenzie LaBlanc.
As colder weather approaches this time of the year, PAWS needs money to pay for oil to heat the home, along with the light bill, house insurance and household supplies which includes a lot of cat food. PAWS has been sheltering cats since the fall of 2003 and at the time of the girls visit, it had close to 80 cats and kittens. The cats are spayed or neutered before they are adopted into their forever family for a small fee.
Troop 712 visited PAWS on Oct. 9 and delivered gifts of Purina dry cat food, Friskies canned cat food and 30-gallon trash bags, along with old blankets, sheets and towels. Tiffany Young, Becky Ruge, Hannah McKissick, Lydia Farnsworth and MacKenzie LaBlanc, along with troop leader Debbie Young and Linda Herbest, enjoyed playing with several of the cats.
Thanks goes to PAWS for spending time with the troop and talking about the history of the shelter. For more call Donna at 965-5277 or Sandy at 943-3131 or find PAWS on Facebook..
